MRB Recruitment 2026: The Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB) has been established with the objective of making direct recruitment to various categories of staff in the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Tamil Nadu Medical Services Recruitment Board invites applications for the Assistant Surgeon (General) post in Tamil Nadu Medical Service. Candidates with MBBS qualifications are eligible for this job.

Eligibility Criteria for MRB Recruitment 2026:

Educational Qualification:

Assistant Surgeon (General):

Candidates should possess the following or its equivalent qualification awarded by a University or Institution recognised by the University Grants Commission for the purpose of its grants. The courses must have been approved by the Medical Council of India.
For Assistant Surgeon (General) – MBBS Degree

In addition to the above, the candidates

Must be a registered practitioner within the meaning of the Madras Medical Registration Act, 1914
Must have served as House Surgeon (CRRI) for a period of not less than twelve months
Candidates should have registered their name in the Tamil Nadu Medical Council on or before the date of this Notification (21.11.2025)
If a candidate claims that the educational qualification possessed by him/her is equivalent though not the same as those prescribed for the appointment, the onus of proof rests with the candidate

Selection Process for MRB Recruitment 2026:

Selection will be made based on the marks obtained in the Computer Based Test in Subject Paper and the incentive marks awarded for the services rendered during Covid – 19pandemic, and duly following the rules of reservation and communal rotation of Government of Tamil Nadu and other conditions stipulated in this notification.
Short-listed candidates will be called for verification of the original certificates as claimed in their on-line application form
There will be No Oral Test for the post

The question paper in the subject “Medical Sciences” will be set in English only and will contain 100 objective type questions.
The Questions will be in the standard of Under Graduate Level
There will be no negative mark for the wrong answer and no oral Test (Interview) for the post.
The candidates who have applied under PWBD (Persons With Bench Mark Disability) category for the post of Assistant Surgeon (General) are eligible for additional compensatory time of 20 Minutes per hour to write the Computer Based Test based on the provisions laid down
